Race To Zero 101 – Part 2

So why is my bank and finance provider starting to be interested in my resilience and sustainability?

I’m Jon Mullen the Energy Evangelist and we’re talking about #SaveEnergySaveMoney.

This is the second part of the Race To Zero chats.

All that I’m talking about is reforming our businesses to reduce the losses and maximise the profits. I’m approaching this from an energy perspective initially, but it works right throughout your business because we all collect data and use this as business intelligence to make the right decisions.

4) Enhance Access To Capital And Affordable Insurance Investors and insurers are increasingly linking business exposure from natural disasters with climate change. Here’s a simple example – I live in the north west of England and everything ticks over quite smoothly, usually! One weekend 3 years ago we had very heavy rain storms, and that was just normal. But we had flooding where there wasn’t normally a problem and one of the local electric substations was flooded, and then one of the main road bridges was hit by a large storage container floating down the river. Two instances which should never happen shut down the electric supply for nearly a week. So we need to take steps to keep your insurance fees affordable and secure your loan, grant and investment worthiness – this can take the form of battery backup, mobile broadband, planned working from home, heating or power supplies for freezers. Many ideas as long as you assess and manage the risks.

5) Grow Your Business And Your Brand There is a growing global network of like-minded businesses seeking to improve themselves, their community and the planet. Being part of this network offers far reaching collaborative and commercial opportunities to grow your business and be a leading brand as market trends shift to a low-carbon economy. If you can prove and show that you are forward thinking then the reputation of your business, both commercially and domestically will be enhanced and will draw more business to you. And it may also help to retain staff because this will show that you want to improve. So be the head and not the tail.
