Purchasing Energy 101 – Purchasing Solutions

Hi folks, I’m Jon Mullen the Energy Evangelist.

Today we’re talking about the frustration of dealing with suppliers.

This past week I’ve had 2 clients who work in the care industry. Most of the problems are based around knowing the process of the suppliers when making changes. Every supplier has their own little foibles, and this is where the problems lie. My first client had issues because their existing supplier had a very small window of time in which to request any changes before they were rolled into the next 12 month contract with the same supplier, and the cherry on the top was that the client didn’t know when the contract was due to end. The second client had a mixture of owned and rented properties with different energy suppliers, and each of the contracts were held in personal names of the directors instead of being registered under the business, and to top it all each of the meters were registered as domestic supplies instead of business.

All of these twists are just part of the process to an energy broker because they are dealing with these issues every day, and they know what information to look for so that the solution is formed into a standardised shape. But you as a client have never seen the standard shape of a contract. This means that you don’t know what you are looking for and the suppliers never have enough time to talk you through the process. So I will be blunt, find an energy broker with a good reputation and they will clear away the confusion and sort out the problems. This is part of my job every day and I actually enjoy helping clients and sorting out the details.

But that’s enough info for today.
